Jay Z premiered his latest music video from the Magna Carta Holy Grail album exclusively through Facebook for 24 hours before it was released to other media outlets. MTV seldom plays music videos and YouTube has become the primary platform where artists get exposed. Facebook is slowly creeping behind YouTube to be a platform for new video content from musicians. This is another move in Jay Z’s initiative to create “new rules” in the way music in distributed. Having the Magna Carta Holy Grail album distributed through Samsung’s smartphones before it was available at other outlets was his first step. Jay Z’s first music video for the album consisted of a 9-minute or so music video where he has somewhat of a conversation with audience members.
